COMIC FESTIVAL FEVER

"Comic collectors are turning out in force for the country's first comics festival, which is being held in Bristol this weekend.

"Dozens of special editions featuring the likes of Dennis The Menace, Desperate Dan and Judge Dredd are on show at the Comics 99 event..."

"...The two venues - Swallow Royal Hotel and the Watershed - were packed solid.

"...Comic editors from America and Germany had also travelled to the show. James McCourt aged 34 from Northampton was laden down with goodies. He said: "It took me three hours to get here but it was worth it."

"A giant comic strip is being put together to raise funds for Comic Relief. It is being created from original artwork by more than 100 worldwide comic artists which has been blown up to form a nine-foot high book. The book, called The World's Biggest Comic Book, follows a script by 2000AD writer Dan Abnett. The original art will be auctioned off during Comics 99 - Britain's first internatinal comics festival featuring dozens of events.."
