Situations Vacant - Terms & Conditions

Situations Vacant runs as a series of workshops and live performances in Bristol and London. The object of the exercise is to create viable, team-writeable situation comedy formats for sale to TV and radio and to achieve better results by working together than any of us has realised individually.

To this end any work created as part of the Sits Vac process has to be subject to the Agreement below, which every contributor must sign. This removes none of your rights as a creator and retains your protection from plagiarism or other violations. In short you grant Situations Vacant permission to perform, promote and represent work created within the Sits Vac writing group.

You retain copyright of any characters and formats you have created, and all rights on any scripts you have written or contributed to. The creator of characters and formats retains the right to withdraw them from future Situations Vacant development after their initial performance or development.

All sitcoms devised by Sits Vac are envisaged as long running formats, capable of being written by a variety of writers. This doesn't mean writing "by committee", indeed a number of productions have remained the sole work of one writer or team, but it does mean every project has to be amenable to contributions and collaboration from other writers. The lead writer on each script, and creator of the formats and characters, have creative veto on any such input.

In practice these working methods have resulted in writing teams being formed and to contributors seeing their contributions to other writers formats staged and bought.

If, as a result of development or showcasing by Situations Vacant, a pilot script or format is optioned or commissioned by a broadcaster or production company, all Situations Vacant will ask is to receive a credit, and remuneration totalling no less than 10% of the writer's fee.

If you feel able to agree to these conditions, having read the Agreement below, I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at our meetings soon. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers
