The SITCOM TRIALS

The SITCOM TRIALS

Thanks to everyone who attended THE SITCOM TRIALS at The Comedy Pub, London W1 on Tuesday July 11th 2000.

I'd like to thank again all the writers who contributed scripts, and the cast members who gave such stonking performances in the six new sitcoms showcased (along with the full length episode of the previous Trials' winner The Victoria Jeffrey Show). And I'd like to thank the audience, industry representatives and humans alike, who turned up in such overwhelming numbers to support our ongoing sitcom development programme.

SITCOM TRIALS JULY 11th - AUDIENCE QUESTIONNAIRES:

The new-look voting system asked whether the viewer wanted to see more of each sitcom, with the options of "Yes", "Maybe", "No" and a box to tick their one overall favourite. (A Yes is worth 2, a Maybe is worth 1, a No is worth minus 1 and a Fave is worth 4)

The results came in as follows:

"Walking With Dinosaurs section was especially good"

"TV v life - much prefer life"

KISS ME SON OF GOD

"Good characters, too many bad jokes" "American girl was good"

"Very much liked the daughter's dialogue. Slow starter"

"Don't believe the family relationship" "Good drama, well written"

"Good, but could get tedious over several episodes"

"Was it originally set in USA? Doesn't translate"

"Kev, stick to commentating - joke!"

IS IT SEXUAL?

"Has potential to create interesting situations in the group."

"Has potential - watch stereotypes"

"Plot? Where? Is it really about anything?"

"Eamonn Holmes nice"

"Brilliant, very strong characters"

"Bit Dear John, nice one liners"

"Chris De Burgh lookalike v good"

THE TEFL TANGO

"Frog rock"

"Very very good" (more than once) "All the jokes! Script fantastic!"

"Good acting - get those accents!"

"The tightest script - would be interesting to see what writer could do in more original setting"

"Waen sounds like Manuel from Fawlty Towers"

POETS CORNERED

"I want to see this!"

"Hmmmmm" "Too explicit - nothing for audience to figure out for itself"

"not very historical for a period comedy"

"Why is it modern? Why not set it in 1800s and use 'thou' and rhymes etc?"

"Like the concept" "Young Ones with frilly shirts"

"Started looking at the air conditining at this point"

"No no no no no" (more than once)

THE VICTORIA JEFFREY SHOW

"The Vicky Jeffrey Show is by far the best"

"Good writing. Can't quite understand how show would go unless she continues to go forward - which she deserves, she's good."

SITCOM TRIALS IN GENERAL

"Most scripts start poorly, lack a good plot or strong main character with most of the jokes"

"Overall writing quite a lot tighter than other shows I've attended."
